Winter Traditions and Customs Festival “După datina străbună”

The 38th Edition of the Winter Traditions and Customs Festival “După datina străbună” successfully took place on December 22, 2024, in Independence Square, Ungheni. The event was highlighted by the impressive performances of 23 artistic groups, showcasing the rich cultural and traditional heritage of the Ungheni community.

The revelation of this edition was the performance of the honorary guests, the folklore ensemble “Ciobănaș de la miori” from Parcova village, Edineț district, who responded to the invitation of the National Center for Conservation and Promotion of Intangible Cultural Heritage (CNCPPCI). They gifted the people of Ungheni a magnificent display of traditions practiced in their home region.

This year’s edition was also remarkable due to the initiatives of the Economic Section, including the Christmas Fair, where traditional dishes were true delicacies, and the surprises from Santa Claus and his Christmas Fairy. Notably, the sweet surprises were made possible thanks to the generosity of some district councilors.

Congratulatory messages emphasizing the festival’s contribution to preserving and promoting winter traditions were delivered by Dionisie Ternovschi, President of Ungheni District, and Vitalie Vrabie, Mayor of Ungheni Municipality. Silvia Zagoreanu, Director of the Center for the Promotion and Conservation of Intangible Cultural Heritage, praised the outstanding performances of the participating groups, highlighting the importance of preserving and celebrating these customs, which, through their diversity, enhance the charm and significance of the holiday season.
