Monastery “St. Great Martyr Gheorghe”

In 2004, on February 19, by the decision of the Holy Synod of the Moldovan Orthodox Church, the parish was converted into a monastic establishment. On January 14, 2004, the parish meeting of the church “St. Great Martyr Gheorghe” took place, with only one question on the agenda: the transformation of the parish into a monastery.

At that time the parish had a two-level building. On the two levels were the two churches. On the first level – “St. Great Martyr Gheorghe ”. In 2003, construction began on the second level of the church “St. Great Martyr Panteleimon”. The monastic life began on March 4, 2004, when the parish priest of the church, priest Gheorghe Matveevici, with the name of Pantelimon, was ordained a monk by Archimandrite Petru Musteata, the Priest of the Monastery “St. Parascheva”, the current Bishop of Ungheni and Nisporeni. Church “St. Great Martyr Gheorghe” currently a monastery, was founded on April 16, 2000 on the Feast of the Lord’s Entry into Jerusalem, the building of the former kindergarten that was handed over to the church. In the church “St. Gheorghe” daily Akathist’s were performed and the chapels of the God’s Mother, Te Deums for health were read. Holy and Divine Liturgies were performed on holidays and Sundays. After the completion of the works, the church was consecrated on December 17, 2001, on the feast of the Holy Great Martyr Varvara, by His Eminence Metropolitan Vladimir. The first bishop’s liturgy took place with a council of over 40 priests. In 2002, the bell tower was built and consecrated.
