Ciachir’s villa („White House”)

It was built around 1975, by the famous state farm “Prut”, led by Iacob Ciachir, located just 2-3 kilometers from Ungheni City. Right from the beginning it was called the “white house”. The official name: „Дом передового опыта” (The house of advanced experience) didn’t take root. As well its other name: Guests House.

The building hosted seminars, lessons on fruit growing. Scientists from the former USSR, from outside, visited the famous apple orchard nearby, to study the experience in this field.

The building was visited during the USSR by high state dignitaries, on their way to Moscow or to the socialist countries. The most important visitor was Leonid Brezhnev, former General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. Another communist activist also passed through here – the dictator Kim Ir-Sen, the leader of North Korea for 46 years. Aleksei Kosighin, prime minister of the USSR from 1964 to 1980, and Ion Iliescu, the president of Romania, were guests of honor at the villa.
